Welcome to the neighborhood, blogger. I've been in the Chocolate Factory (Myrtle at Spencer) for 4 years, since 2003. I saw that you talked with a woman on the street who said the Mynt has been under construction for 4 years--that's inaccurate. It's only 2. Before that, it was an empty lot, like the others between Mynt and the G train. So you con see how the development is going!
You need to tell us more about yourself. What's your bio? (Did I hear you mention Texas? Is that where you're from?) Tell us more...
Again, welcome.

No, gentrification resistance in Bed Stuy is much like it is anywhere else. It's based on the fact that once an area undergoes gentrification the standard of living in that area drastically changes. The people and businesses that once lived and operated in these neighborhoods can no afford to stay. Yes, gentrification can bring about some positives but overall you have a massive crowding out of those who aren't as well off. Unfortunately race does play a part because generally speaking white people are usually wealthier than blacks and other immigrant minorities. Personally though I don't think it plays that big of a role because there are plenty of yuppie Black, Asian, Latino, etc people trying to infringe.
